Professional Scrum Product Owner Certification Course

Live Virtual Class 18-20 Sep 2020 08:00-12:30 Online.

Due to COVID-19, this class will be held virtually.

What's up awesome people! Thanks for your interest in joining us in this Virtual Class Instructor Lead Professional Scrum Product Owner class. Wow that is quite a mouthful isn't it? :)

Anyway, due to the current condition out there, many of us are forced by the situation to do many of our activities at home. Many people have requested me to facilitate a Professional Scrum Product Owner class virtually. So in this class I will deliver a standard PSPO material but I have adapted for online delivery so the value of collaborative learning is still optimal. I am here to support your learning journey to be an awesome Product Owner.

What makes this class different to offline PSPO training?

  • The class will be facilitated in three days starting from Wednesday - Friday.
  • But we will not spend the whole 8 hours in front of our monitor. That is going to be tiring for sure. So the schedule will be from 08:00-12:00 GMT+8. Please take note of the timezone.
  • We will also have some ad-hoc short breaks to stretch our body for 10 minutes depending on the group agreement.
  • This class is limited to 10 participants so that all of us will get optimal learning out of it. I want to ensure that each and one of you are engaged throughout the course.
  • On Friday, we may hang out after the class and have a beer virtually if everyone is keen for it.

What I promise you

  • Two way discussions and maximising collective intelligence and not only presenting slides like many online training available in the market. Yes, I will make you busy throughout the three days course. There will be many group exercises.
  • Practical experience and knowledge from me. You can pick my brain. I have been a Professional Scrum Trainer for almost a decade and I have worked with many teams remotely from South East Asia and still am. You will not get this with online trainings from Udemy or Coursera.
  • The most awesome quality virtual training. I have invested in the best hardware and software found in the market to ensure that everyone who will be participating will get the best experience from this virtual class. I believe in professionalism.
  • The learning still continues after the class is over. We will still connect and support with each other not only to get through the current situation but also to be an awesome Product Owner via Slack.

What now?

  • If you are interested in joining us in this awesome virtual training experience, please register yourself using the registration form.
  • I will then send you the link to make a payment using credit card.
  • Once you have made the payment, I will then send you the confirmation e-mail confirming your slot for the class.
  • You will be invited to join the class Slack group so that I can brief you and other participants about the tools that will be used during the training and also some videos you need to watch prior to attending the class so that you can be prepared.
  • I hope this is clear enough explanation for you. But feel free to contact me if there are anything missing or if there are things that makes you doubtful or concerned. Looking forward to interact with you in one of my virtual classes. Stay safe and stay healthy.

The Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) training is a 2-day training on how to maximize the value of software products and systems. Product Ownership in Scrum today requires more than knowledge of how to write requirements or manage a Product Backlog. Professional Scrum Product Owners need to have a concrete understanding of everything that drives value from their products.

Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) course is THE cutting-edge course for Scrum Product Owners, Agile Product Managers, strategy managers and anyone responsible for a software product’s success in turbulent markets.

Students develop and solidify this understanding through instruction and team-based exercises. The breadth of the role''s responsibilities in delivering a successful product becomes clear from an Agile perspective on product management. Metrics are identified to track the creation of value and the successful delivery of it to the marketplace. This defines the perspective from which the role of the Product Owner in the Scrum framework is taught.

The audience of the Professional Scrum Product Owner course includes those accountable for maximizing the value delivered by products and services, including;

  • Product Managers and Scrum Product Owners responsible for the delivery of a product, from conception to customer usage.
  • IT Development Managers responsible for a line of business or internal company system.
  • Strategy managers responsible for the overarching direction of a product or product family.
  • Scrum Masters can also benefit from this course as their role often includes coaching Product Owners.

Below is a high-level agenda for the PSPO course. If Product Owner's responsibility is only about writing good user stories and mapping it to user persona, attending this course may not bring any benefits. The course consists of modules that build on each other. Modules are exercise-driven, and their success depends on effective group participation and interaction. Attendees should be able to immediately start applying the techniques discussed in this course when they return to work.

Value Driven Development

The primary job of a Product Owner is to maximize the value created by the product for which he or she is responsible. This section covers value drivers, and strategies for measuring them.

Product Management

Agile product management is different than traditional approaches. This section explores those differences, as well as how the Product Owner works in an Agile environment to deliver a product.

Managing Requirements

The Product Backlog is the fuel that feeds the development team, and managing it is one of the primary roles of the Scrum Product Owner. Here you will learn about User Stories, ordering and organization strategies, and Product Backlog grooming.

Planning Releases

What does a good release look like? Why are releases done? What impact can a bad release have on you and your customer? This section explores release strategies and how to optimize the delivery of value with them.

Lean Planning

A release is the first step to realizing value. What better way to learn how to plan a release than to do it? Here students cover the basics of identifying a release goal and requirements, backlog ordering, estimation, adjustment, and baseline planning.

Managing Products

Understanding Total Cost of Ownership is fundamental to successfully managing a product. How do you balance between optimizing the value of a release and maximizing the value of the product or system as an asset for the organization? How does that fit into your product roadmap, and why is your Development Team's "Definition of Done" so fundamental to everything that you do?

Assessment and Certification

All participants completing the official Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) course will receive a second password to take the PSPO I assessment if the participant cannot pass the first attempt.

These industry-recognized certifications require a minimum passing score on the associated rigorous assessment. Assessment will be done online without having to go to any test centres.

Attendees who are Project Management Institute (PMI) PMP's are eligible for 15 Professional Development Units (PDU) after completing this course.

Course Prerequisites and Expectations of Students

Attendees will be able to make the most of the class if they:

  • Have studied the Scrum Guide (required).
  • Understand the basics of product management.
  • Currently manage a product, or will be managing a product in the future.
  • Have a clear sense of the challenges and opportunities facing their product.
  • Want to know more about how to leverage agility to deliver more value to their customers.
